Flags were also awarded to 18 Greek marinas and 6 sustainable tourism boats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The global Blue Flag program, which is operated by the non-profit Foundation of Environmental Education (FEE), is one of the most respected eco-labels there is. This year, a total of <strong>4205 beaches<\/strong>, <strong>711 marinas<\/strong> I <strong>122 tourism boats<\/strong> in <strong>51 countries<\/strong> were awarded with flags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" marginwidth=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/fee.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/webappviewer\/index.html?id=cbf5730d1fa04e9e8372f9f01662ed89&amp;wmode=opaque\" width=\"750\" data-embed=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" title=\"Green Key\" height=\"500\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Blue Flag Beaches in Crete<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While the <strong>new flags<\/strong> will be raised all around the country (<a aria-label=\"see map here (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blueflag.global\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">see map here<\/a>), some areas stand out. Among the <a href=\"https:\/\/holidayify.com\/pl\/lista-wysp-grecji-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"110\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wyspy greckie<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/holidayify.com\/pl\/wyspa-kreta-grecja-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kreta<\/a> holds the most flags, with 139 beaches and 1 marina awarded, most of them in the <strong>Lasithi<\/strong> and the <strong>Chania<\/strong> regional units. These flags are spread across its four regions: <a href=\"https:\/\/holidayify.com\/pl\/chania-kreta-grecja-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"146\">Chania<\/a> with 38, <a href=\"https:\/\/holidayify.com\/pl\/rethymno-kreta-grecja-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"121\">Retimno<\/a> with 20, <a href=\"https:\/\/holidayify.com\/pl\/heraklion-kreta-grecja-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"161\">Heraklion<\/a> with 33, and <a href=\"https:\/\/holidayify.com\/pl\/lasithi-crete-greece\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"6\">Lasithi<\/a> taking the lead with 48.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Note that <strong>Blue Flags are not only awarded for the cleanliness of bathing waters<\/strong> but require many other criteria be met, including the presence of services such as restrooms, first aid equipment and much more. You\u2019ll see as many as <strong>94 Blue Flags<\/strong> floating in the wind at beaches and marinas here, plus Greece\u2019s <strong>first Blue Flag-awarded tourism boat company<\/strong>, <a aria-label=\"AllinBlusive (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/allinblusive.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AllinBlusive<\/a>. Last year the latter was awarded with a flag for their boat <strong>Sani Swan<\/strong>. This year three more of their vessels, Sani Cat, Sani Grace and Sani Riva, were also awarded. The company was also named Europe\u2019s Leading Private Cruise Company at the World Travel Awards last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Blue Flag Beaches in Athens and Attica<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the region of Attica (which administratively includes <a href=\"https:\/\/holidayify.com\/pl\/ateny-grecja-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"652\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ateny<\/a>, the surrounding area and the nearest islands), <strong>18 beaches<\/strong> I <strong>4 marinas<\/strong> were awarded with flags. The Blue Flag beaches nearest to the city center are located in the southern suburb of <strong>Glyfada<\/strong>. For example, in order to receive a flag, <strong>water samples<\/strong> must be collected and analyzed once a month in the off-season, and information about bathing water quality and local ecosystems must be displayed at the beach. Environmental education activities must also be provided and promoted to beach-goers, among other things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from the <strong>criteria focusing on sustainability<\/strong>, others require that establishments contribute for the good of their region. For example, at least one beach in a municipality must have disabled-friendly access and facilities, or none will be awarded.
